Amy O’Connor

I am a self-taught artist living in Kildare.  Animals and landscapes are my main focus as I have always had a keen interest in nature, the majority of my work are from places I have been or from my imagination.  I mainly paint using oils or acrylics but am always experimenting with new ideas.

I believe art is a therapeutic medium and helps us physically, mentally and emotionally with every aspect of our lives.

Title: Grand Canal Milltown

Medium: Acrylics

Size: 30cm x 30cm

Framed

Price: €200

I chose the Grand Canal at Milltown because of its quiet, untouched atmosphere and connection to rural Irish life. It offers beautiful scenery from the clear water of the canal, to the sounds of the birds singing, the historic ruins of the old mill, the ivy bridge and beautiful trees. It offers a strong sense of place and memory, making it the perfect setting to capture in a painting.

Title: Braveheart Hill

Medium: Acrylics

Size: 30cm x 30cm

Framed

Price: €200

I chose Braveheart hill in the Curragh because of it’s cinematic beauty and historical significance.  It offers expansive views that stretch far across the Irish midlands. This landscape is made iconic by it’s appearance of the battle scene from the film ‘Braveheart’. To deepen the atmosphere, I added a stormy sky, to symbolise both the chaos of conflict and the beauty that can emerge from struggle, by capturing the light breaking through the sky cascading the light on the trees.
