My name is Martina Harrigan I am a local artist from Newbridge.

The work I create is inspired by my love of nature and all the different types of textures, forms, and shapes that are seen along our beaches, countryside, and in our Oceans.

My work is focused on fibre manipulation and the different types of textures that can be achieved by applying heat, stitch, and embellishment, which will achieve my final design. I also incorporate a lot of recycled plastics and fabric remnants and any other item I can recycle and turn into something beautiful.

I love contemporary off-beat textile art; therefore, I work on achieving something that combines these ideas in a cleverly skilled way

As an artist, I also love to photograph unusual shapes and forms, or details of rust.

Flowers, Leaves, Tree Bark, Weathered Walls, and Cobwebs, anything that will inspire me to transform natures natural beauty into unique pieces of Textile Art.

My work has been exhibited with the Newbridge Pop Up Art Group many times.

I have received commissions from clients as far away as Japan, America, and France.

Fibre Artist and Textile Designer

Title: Loose End

Medium: Mixed Media

Size: 58 x 63cm

Framed

Price: €150

This piece was inspired by the underwater caves in Mexico. The thread emulates the water cascading over the edge, and when the sun shines through the crevice and onto the water, it creates a kaleidoscope of colour.

Drawing with stitch is a beautiful way to showcase the organic form of our most used fibre. Combined with watercolour on paper, I wanted to let the thread express its own identity, by hanging loosely from the paper but also be an integral part of the design.

Title: Off The Wall

Medium: Mixed Media

Size: 35 x 51cm

Framed

Price: €95

As an artist, I love to photograph unusual shapes and forms or details of rust. Flowers, Tree bark, Weathered walls, and even Cobwebs. Seeing beauty in unexpected places. Anything that will inspire me to transform a weathered wall. I was drawn by the way the weather had corroded the wall, discoloured and splotched the surface.

On a watercolour surface, I applied French knots of many colours and sizes, this helped to create texture, I also incorporated beads and silk thread which gave the illusion of light and shade.

Title: Special Branch

Medium: Mixed Media

Size: 44 x 75cm

This piece of Art is inspired by the Tropical Rainforest. Rare and beautiful flowers can be seen growing on the branches of some trees in the Tropical Rainforest. I have used recycled Organza Silk and beading to re-create this natural beauty of Mother Nature.
