The works on display today are taken from a solo show called “Machnaimh”(Reflections) that artist Fintan O’Brien launched recently. Fintan is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Westmeath currently. He grew up in Newbridge and attended the Patrician College before getting a degree from N.C.A.D. He has exhibited locally and internationally.

The mixed media works on display are more figurative than his current abstract expressionist painting by hopefully offer a way into the mind of the srtits through abstracted imagery and mark making. The artists has been on a journey of grief over the past few yeas, having lost both his life partner Meave and his eldest daughter Realtin, who too was a wonderful artist. Fintan has spoken on how his artwork has saved him during his darkest times and how valuable a tool art therapy can be for everyone. One of the titles of the works is ” The Observer”; today you too are the observer and without you the exhbition wouldn’t be a success.
